Style Me September
Features Monday, September 28th, 2009As the red leaves fall to the ground, so does our summer wardrobe. It’s time for a new year of fashion, make-up, trends, and creativity.
Emily Brown, make-up artist at Made You Blush in downtown Fredericton, says we’re going to see a throw back to the 80’s.
“We’re going to see bright blended colors, it wont only be on the lips or eyes, it will be both,” Brown said. “A bold eye and lip.”
As I wandered the store I came upon bright glitter shadows – “metallics on the eyes is big,” she said. “It’s very disco-esk.”
High-class, Chanel-inspired red lips is another trend we will see this year. Deep colors such as dark purples, bright and deep reds, and dove gray are the colors of this year’s palette.
Brown said the “must have” product of the fall are primers, because “primers have silicone in them which gives you that soft flawless finish.”
Most products don’t differ from others; however primers allow foundation to glide on. If I splurged on one item it would a primer; my favorite is Smashbox photo-finish primer.
The smoky-eye, cat-eye, and natural looks are still a favorite. The smoky eye is being created with other colors rather than just black. Purple, brown, gray, and dark green can also be used to create it.
Made You Blush carries Stila Cosmetics, Too Faced Cosmetics, Face Atelier Bella Beauty, DuWop, Liptini/Nailtini, The Balm, Lola Cosmetics, and Classified Cosmetics.
Made You Blush is located at 59 York Street. You can’t miss the store, it’s the only one in town painted in a princess pink color – a make-up junkies’ dream!
Robert Simmonds is a high-end clothing store located at 400 King Street. Rachel Matchett, an employee at Robert Simmonds, took me through the store updating me on the fall trends.
Plaid is everywhere this season. You can wear plaid subtly or boldly, dress it up or down. One of the jackets Matchett showed me was a black and white plaid jacket, with subtle white stitching that can be worn tactfully.
Jewel tones such as deep purples, blues, and turquoise are found in a lot of the collections. A must for the fall is also skinny jeans and leggings. With all the beautiful boots that are in style, you will want to show them off.
Fall’s new addition to the boot this year is ‘over the knee’ boots. The 80’s booties, tall boots, suede boots, and flat buckled boots are still a favorite. With new colors and details they are a complimentary component to any outfit.
The boyfriend look is also very hot this year. It is men-inspired and women-tailored. Longer tailored jackets and roomy jeans are the staple to this look – very elegant as long as it’s not paired with too much bulk.
Embellishments are seen on a lot of the fall sweaters and leggings. Beading and rhinestones are used to create patterns and a bit of sparkle to the clothes.
Robert Simmonds carries many Canadian brands mostly from Montreal and Toronto. Some of the brands include Mackage, Teenflo, Joeffer Caoc, and Smythe.
Sofie Thibodeau, a buyer for the new add-on to Robert Simmonds, RSX Urban, is hoping to catch the eye of a younger demographic. With jeans ranging from $78 to $500 it’s savvy for all who want a nice pair of jeans.
They carry Joe’s jeans, Mavi, Diesel, True Religion, Citizens of Humanity, Rock and Republic, and more. There are brands with a following of Angelina Jolie and Sienna Miller. Sienna Miller and her sister collaborated on a clothing line called Twenty8Twelve, which is carried at RSX Urban.
Moving on to the men, jeans that are straight leg are in style, not too big and baggy but just sleek enough to go over their boots. If you look around the store you can find t-shirts with graffiti, sweaters, hoodies. A big thing for the guys right now is layering.
Guy can find Diesel, G-star, Hugo Boss, Mavi, Dom Rebel, J.Lindeberg, and more at RSX Urban. Plaid is also in for guys, and so are hats – many different kinds like the newsboy and snowboard caps. The sexy retro style is very in for guys. The chic black glasses, with a cool laid-back look.
Stop in to any of these stores for some beautiful unique pieces, or for a fashion inspiration!
