Transcripts Thursday, November 26th, 2009“Well it started actually in September 2008, I believe, yeah, 2008. We’d all known that there was a media monopoly in New Brunswick, or a near monopoly. We’d all known it for a long time but in September 2008 we had a, we call it the New Brunswick Social Forum which was basically a weekend with people all over the province, even people from Nova Scotia, that came together in Fredericton and we had the social forum. So there’s a bunch of presenters that talked about all sorts of issues having to do with social justice, environment, all sorts of things. We even had a congress woman from El Salvador who came. There’s Andrea Bear Nicholas that talked about Maliseet and the issue around the language. So there’s all sorts of things and we realized that…the weekend was also to organize, not just to gain awareness, but it was also to organize around these issues. So on the Sunday, when we came to discuss all these issues we realized the one common issue between all of them was the media and how we didn’t have an avenue for, these issues just weren’t being covered in the media. So that was the problem that was common to all of them. So basically that’s where the idea really developed.”
