Twas the night before Christmas – Transcript

As kids my sister and I had a favourite story book with the poem Twas the night before Christmas. Every year we would turn the colourful pages embossed with red velvet while Mom or Dad read the story.

My sister inherited the old story book when her son was a baby.

Last Christmas was an extra special one for my husband and I, we had a house full of kids and grandkids including the newest, 14 month old Savannah.

Wanting to start a new tradition for our family, I searched and searched for a story book as splendid as the one I remembered.

I didn’t find red velvet covered pages, but I did find a nice big colourful story book I thought was worthy of heirloom status.

That Christmas Eve, 11 year old Kyle held his baby cousin while each of us took turns reading a page from Savannah’s new book. Savannah kept busy with a different Christmas story where each page had a different texture, giving her little hands something to do while we read.

After the story it was time for youngsters to go off to bed while the adults tried to prepare for the chaos which was expected only a few short hours away.

Christmas morning was a sight! Grampy helped baby unwrap her many presents. Kyle spent the day playing as much with Savannah’s new toys as he did with his little cousin.

Last Christmas was a time of great adventures, the warmth of family and the beginning of new traditions.

Wishing you and yours the very happiest of holidays.
