Transcrpit: Eh, Oh Canada, Go?

SFX: Crowds chanting…

Voicer: Countdown is in full swing for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Vancouver is hosting the world. Usually that would be a good thing right? No. Not so much for our history. Canada two times hosting the Olympics, in Montreal goose egg, Calgary goose egg. Makes you think we will cheer really loud this year. Pepsi Canada thinks so. They’re coming out with a brilliant campaign and I use brilliant very loosely basically getting us to create a cheer. Is it going to work though?

SFX: examples of cheers for the Pepsi website….

Voicer: I’m gonna cheer for the Russians before that ever comes out of my mouth. We the fans are going to cheer whatever we want. We don’t need a massive corporation to force us to say something. Isn’t it enough we are forced to see Pepsi products every where we turn? It’s probably going to get even worse during the Olympics. As fans, we’re suppose to be spontaneous. Calling refs blind, degrading the other team, all part of the territory.

SFX: Tragically Hip – Fireworks

Voicer: What’s wrong with Go Canada Go anyways? Short, sweet and to the point. Some of the chants on the Pepsi website lasted ten seconds. I’m pretty sure as a society our attention span isn’t that good. Let’s be honest we all have a little ADD. Especially when it comes down to something so small as a chant.

SFX: Steam – Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Goodbye

Voicer: It’s not that I’m not for cheering for our athletes. I love our athletes. But, does it really matter what comes out of our mouth? As long as they know we are behind them one-hundred and ten per cent, they’re going to give it there all. There’s no need for shamelessly plugging your products Pepsi.

SFX: Gary Glitter – Rock ‘n’ Roll part 2

Voicer: The fizz has definitely ran out on this Pepsi campaign and hopefully fans will make these cheers become flat just like the pop. Besides, the only cheer that really matters in the end is this one.

SFX: fans singing Oh Canada!….
