To Ref or not to Ref

Ghislain Hebert making a call in an NHL game

Watch here: Most people go to sports games to watch the athletes, but athletes aren’t the only people on the playing fields. Referees are a huge part of the sports world, but their role is often misunderstood. While chances of becoming a professional referee are somewhat slim, there is much opportunity to officiate recreationally in many different sports. However, there is a pan-Canadian problem of attracting, retaining and developing referees. Melissa Russwurm explores the challenges and opportunities of this important role.

It was indeed a pleasure to hear Ghislain explain what it’s all about. I am sure he has the qualities to become an NHL referee.Hearing him explain what it takes makes me more confident he will make it. He makes us proud and what a fine job in the AHL on CBC this past week. You make us very proud! Special thanks to Melissa to doing such a fine job!!
